Job Description
 
Performs technical computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) work preparing sketches, electrical design drawings, and specifications for Wastewater Division projects and existing infrastructure. Responsible for following applicable rules, codes, and ordinances in performing daily tasks, includes following departmental procedures for design specifications and required accuracies. Drawings may include simple sketches, wiring diagrams and schematics, cross sections of underground cables and conduits, and elevation drawings of industrial electrical equipment. Assists in review of construction design and as-built drawings, project submittals, and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations. Employee will confer with the Industrial Automation Group’s electrical staff, contract electrical engineers, and controls programmers to collect data for presentation in a finished product. Work is performed under general supervision of the IAG Industrial Electrical Supervisor and is reviewed for neatness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and results obtained.

Work location is Iron Bridge Regional Water Reclamation Facility, 601 Iron Bridge Cir, Oviedo, but position involves travel to a number of other City wastewater facilities and installations throughout the area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in CADD, Engineering Technology, or related field and three (3) years of electrical/electronic or CADD experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD 2010 or newer required. Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical 2010 or newer preferred.

Additional Qualifications for Promotion:

Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

Creates computerized drawing files; plots and reproduces files to hard copy on a variety of media types.

Prepares detailed plans and/or profile drawings from written or electronically collected field notes for a variety of public works construction projects (buildings and structures, electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, architectural details, sidewalks, roads, drainage, sanitary sewers, intersection drawings) utilizing sophisticated computer aided drafting and design equipment.

Prepares land boundary, topographic, hydrographic, vertical and horizontal maps, as built construction plans and geodetic survey plot drawings.

Reviews site and developer plans and legal description of property and researchers information regarding right-of-ways, easement, sanitary and storm lines and alley ways.

Performs complex mathematical calculations to reduce field data to coordinate geometry data, and to compute areas, volumes, and other pertinent data.

Creates, stores, and analyzes map and plans information to include pertinent boundaries.

Operates plotters and digitizing equipment.

Defines and calculates contours, boundary lines, contour and right-of-way lines, roadways, and other manmade features.

Maintains and updates drawings of buildings structures, mechanical and electrical systems, intersections, treatment plants, lift stations, and related facilities.

Prepares written and oral reports, presentation drawings and charts.

Performs related work as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of basic principles, laws, standards, techniques and terminology of land surveying.

Knowledge of civil engineering principles, geometry, cartography and computerized graphic design and geographic information systems.

Knowledge of architectural principles and building codes.

Skill in drawing a variety of lines types, curves, and arcs.

Skill in preparation and presentation of written and oral report, presentation drawings and charts.

Skill in the use of computer-aided drafting and design equipment.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, and to meet deadlines.

Ability to create, modify and delete a variety of plans, maps, construction drawings and related technical documents.

Ability to accurately replicate dimensions, angles and other precise measurements and specifications.

Ability to read and understand complex legal descriptions.

Ability to work evening and night shift.
