Job Description
 
Performs supervisory, specialized investigative work enforcing Chapters 6 and 55 of the City of Orlando Code. Work is performed under general supervision of the Treasury Operations Supervisor. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and results obtained for adequacy and compliance with City of Orlando policy. An employee assigned to this classification must use their own vehicle during inspections. Work is sometimes performed outdoors and the employee is subject to weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and five (5) years experience conducting filed inspections and enforcing policies, codes, and ordinances; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Some supervisory experience desired.
 
Responsibilities

Issues tickets to non-licenses taxicabs and "for-hire" operators and licensed operators who violate city code.

Supervises and participates in the vehicle inspections and taximeter testing.

Supervises the vehicle permitting process including pre-application process, package review and permit issuance

Supervises driver permitting process, including testing, application review, criminal history checks, finger printing, packages sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and completed packages

Reviews minutes and prepares agenda for the monthly Transportation Permit Board meeting and Vehicle for Hire Administrators meetings,

Coordinates with the Orlando Police Department and the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority regarding enforcement if taxis and vehicles for hire.

Inspects premises/operation of applicants for new or renewal licenses/permits; processes and checks licenses; provides pertinent information to applicants and the public related to contractor registration and vehicle-for-hire permits, or other licensing requirements.

Informs applicant of deviations from specifications, defective materials, and safety hazards. Answers contractor's/occupant's questions regarding violations of applicable City Codes. Advises corrective action.

Completes inspection records and reports and submits to supervisor; checks and verifies Vehicle-for-Hire Driver's criminal histories with court system.

Inspects and certifies taxi cab meters.

Assigns and supervises Vehicle-for-Hire Inspectors.

Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to read maps and rules and interpret their meaning and application.

Ability to operate automobile in order to do field inspections.

Ability to walk over uneven terrain in order to conduct inspections.

Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly. tactfully, and impartially.

Ability to interpret technical sketches and blueprints.

Ability to ascertain facts through investigation.
