Job Description
 
Performs responsible professional work ensuring the quality-level management of processes for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System within the Orlando Fire Department. Work includes reviewing cases, broad evaluation of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), gathering statistical data, analyzing information, and making recommendations on system improvements, such as transport billing and report writing capabilities. Work may also include assisting in the coordination of the daily activities of the EMS units and in the scheduling and oversight of civilian OFD EMT and Paramedic personnel; assisting with implementing and administering the Continuous Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) initiative; and assisting the Training Officer(s) with coordinating, researching, designing, and delivering Department daily, monthly, and annual training schedules and materials. Participates in logistics planning sessions. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Emergency Medical Services Assistant Chief.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in EMS, Health Care, Education, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Graduation from an accredited Paramedic program and currently certified as a National Registry Paramedic or as a State of Florida Paramedic. Must be a paramedic with five (5) years of pre-hospital experience as a Paramedic. Minimum of two (2) years of field supervisory experience (preceptor/FTO) and/or three (3) years as a Quality Improvement Coordinator. May also be required to attain instructor certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Tactical Emergency Causality Care (TECC), or other instructor certifications according to department or system need. Paramedic Educator experience preferred.

Coordinates and designs delivery of training.

Evaluates Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Gathers statistical data, analyzes information, and makes recommendations on system improvements, such as transport billing and report writing capabilities.

Assists in coordinating daily activities of the EMS units to include scheduling and oversight of civilian OFD EMT and Paramedic personnel

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles of supervision and ability to apply this knowledge to work problems.

Knowledge of the operation of standard EMS operations.

Knowledge of the law, rules, and regulations controlling EMS operations.

Knowledge of computers and their applications with specific emphasis on current departmental patient care software.

Skilled in the operation of a personal computer, its software, and its hardware.
