Job Description
 
Performs specialized clerical and manual work in the operation of a municipal warehouse, storeroom, or storage area. Work involves responsibility for the requisitioning, receipt, storage, inventory, and issuance of materials, supplies, tools, and related inventory items. Work also may involve the limited operation of certain automotive-type equipment utilized to unload, relocate and load inventory and construction supplies such as heavy pipe. Work is performed under general supervision. Work is reviewed by superiors through checks of inventory records, filing of orders, inspection, and conversations.

OR Performs work in the operation of a departmental warehouse, storeroom, or storage area. Duties include processing requisitions, handling shipments, performing inventory control duties, and issuing or distributing materials, supplies, and other stored items. Work requires the physical ability to operate warehousing equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts for loading, unloading, and handling inventory and construction supplies. Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year of experience in warehousing, inventory control, materials handling, purchasing, or related area; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Some positions must pass police background check which includes polygraph.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Maintains stock, parts, and other supplies in departmental storeroom; keeps storage areas organized and clean.

Receives and places products or property in their assigned storeroom or warehouse location in an organized manner and logs as appropriate.

Requisitions and receives parts, materials, supplies, and chemicals.

Investigates assets that are lost or missing and insures that all proper forms are received for the proper transfer or deletion of assets.

Receives excess property, cleans and performs minor repairs on items.

Prepares for public auctions, sealed bids, and City sales, minor repairs of material, clean and organize sale sites and materials and assists the Property Control Supervisor.

Maintains records incident to the procurement, inventory, receipt, and issuance of materials, tools, and equipment. Recommends the type and amount of inventory items.

Assists with inventory control of stocks, supplies, equipment and other material stores using manual and computerized logs and documents..

Inspects grounds and facilities to ensure they are in a safe and clean condition.

Inspects items received or supplies against delivery tickets; checks that purchase orders are in conformance with quantity and specifications requested.

May operate forklift and related warehouse equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of storage and inventory control methods and procedures.

Knowledge of practices and procedures employed in the storage and issuance of material and supplies.

Thorough knowledge of materials, components, and various items of capital equipment used by City agencies.

Knowledge of codes, regulations, and procedures of assigned area related to property control.

Ability to use a personal computer and enter accurate data and log information.

Ability to operate a forklift, van, pick-up truck, and other material handling equipment.

Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions and perform difficult mathematical computations accurately.

Ability to keep stock records and prepare reports.

Ability to perform minor work on tools and equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, vendors and supervisors.

Ability to perform work that involves bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and transporting items weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
