Job Description
|
|
Performs responsible supervisory, administrative, and technical work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of sewage lift stations, odor control facilities, and sewage transfer facilities. Primary duties include scheduling and coordinating projects, estimating costs, procuring materials and supplies, inspecting work, and performing various administrative tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Lift Station Manager. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted, inspection of facilities, section accomplishments, and conferences with management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years college or technical training in the mechanical or electrical field plus six (6) years experience in operating, repairing, and maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment (such as pumps, engines, electrical control centers, electric motors, and piping arrangements of sewage pumping stations), to include Microsoft Office experience and three (3) years supervisory or managerial experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class D Driver's License required prior to employment. Wastewater Class B Collection Technician certificate required within six (6) months of hire. Must have a cell/home phone or the ability to be contacted in case of an emergency. Building and grounds maintenance experience desired.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Schedules, coordinates, and assigns work to crews engaged in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of sewage lift stations.
Inspects work while in progress and upon completion to ensure lift station buildings, pumps, engines, generators and related fixtures to ensure performance standards maintained.
Implements preventive maintenance programs for portable pumps, emergency generators, submersible pumps, station pumps, and other station equipment to limit system breakdowns.
Oversees technical, electrical, and mechanical work on engines, pumps, generator, etc. when required. Designs modifications for lift stations.
Prepares specifications for portable and stationary lift station equipment.
Reviews construction plans for new lift station equipment and recommends changes using knowledge of standard specifications for lift stations.
Inspects new and existing lift stations for electrical, mechanical, and structural problems; takes necessary corrective actions.
Determines cause of lift station problems in response to calls received from lift station operators and/or dispatchers and calls in repair crew if necessary; performs emergency repairs as needed. Must be on call 24 hours per day.
Purchases and/or authorizes purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies needed to repair/maintain lift stations and related equipment.
Performs administrative duties such as review and/or preparation of time sheets for accuracy, preparation of daily work schedules, weekly production reports, completion of accident report forms, and review and approval of work assignment sheets, quarterly reports, employee performance appraisals, and related documents.
Ensures equipment and materials properly maintained through periodic examinations. Enforces safety rules and regulations.
Resolves minor disciplinary problems; recommends major disciplinary actions.
Participates in the development and administration of annual operating budgets to include establishment of goals and performance standards, control of operating expenses, and preparation of various reports.
Interviews, selects, trains, and/or disciplines employees in accordance with bargaining agreements, and personnel policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as needed to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Lift Station Section and division.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of modern theories, principles and practices of lift station operation, maintenance and repair.
Comprehensive knowledge of methods, techniques, tools, and materials utilized to maintain and repair electrical and mechanical components of lift station systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Extensive knowledge of building codes, regulations and ordinances.
Extensive knowledge of management principles, practices and methods of operation.
Extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Considerable knowledge of basic records keeping and report writing.
Ability to plan, organize and administer a wide variety of activities and assignments associated with maintenance, repair and construction of wastewater systems.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, prepare specifications and estimate material and equipment needs.
Exposed to noxious fumes, chemicals, and insects.
Ability to maintain records and to prepare and present complete reports clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials and the general public.
Ability to perform inspections of lift stations which involve walking, climbing through 24" openings, and bending.
