Job Description
 
Performs specialized administrative and technical tasks to increase case solvability rates. Assists detectives with tasks associated with missing adult cases and works as the administrator of the FINDER program. Assists homicide detectives with administrative case tasks that are investigative in nature but may not require a sworn detective to complete. Works under the direction of a Police Captain. Work is generally reviewed through random spot checks of cases or discussion of problems. However, unusually important or complicated assignments are checked in detail upon completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and at least four (4) years clerical experience, preferably in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Ability to operate personal computers, the Internet, and various software programs including Microsoft Office programs required.
 
Responsibilities

Protects highly confidential/sensitive material
 
Uses National Center Missing and Exploited Children locator computer to receive and distribute flyers on various crimes  
 
Works with Crime Analysis Unit, Crimeline, and Community Involvement to establish crime patterns and profiles, initiate crime bulletins, and computer file searches 
 
Relays information to School Resource Officers, Squads, District Officers, Gang Unit, etc.
 
Contacts other agencies to obtain photos, latent prints, and victim/suspect information 
 
Transports witnesses and victims, as needed; obtains arrest information via teletype, and/or record section
 
Testifies in County and Juvenile Court, and in depositions, which include misdemeanor/felony case, as needed
 
Conducts routine follow-up investigations of assigned cases 
 
Conducts arrest record checks of unusual situations requiring police response; canvas for leads; distribute flyers
 
Acts as a scribe during major investigations; interviews and records detailed accounts of incident investigations, through witness, and intent to prosecute statements using appropriate forms
 
Makes presentations to citizens’ police academy and other civilian groups
 
Writes routine reports and correspondence 
 
Assists Patrol Officers and other law enforcement agencies with investigations and police reports 
 
Prepares written teletype messages to other Law Enforcement Agencies 
 
Picks up teletype entries/cancellations and calls in PACE reports, when necessary enters or cancels victims from NCIC/FCIC 
 
Attends training sessions and seminars
 
Perform other related duties as directed through the chain of command 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
Knowledge of Investigative Resources 
 
Knowledge of Policies when working with the news media 
 
Knowledge and use of Mobile Command Terminal (M.C.T.)
 
Knowledge of the methods and practices of crime prevention, criminal investigations, and identification 
 
Knowledge of criminal court policy and procedures, criminal intelligence methods, procedures 
 
Knowledge of FCIC/NCIC System used to (pull warrants, arrest records, driver license records, search for missing juveniles, abductors, relatives, etc. 
 
Knowledge of business english, spelling, and arithmetic and office practices and procedures.
 
Knowledge of Internet (for investigative tools and research) 
 
Knowledge of computer data bases and data entry.
 
Knowledge of police department policies and procedures in assigned area.
 
Knowledge of police policies and procedures governing quality control standards and processing missing adult cases.
 
Knowledge of CJNet and certification to use maintain liaison with other Law Enforcement Agencies for mutual exchange of information 
 
Ability to use of Mobile Command Terminal (M.C.T.)
 
Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions and learn codes, regulations, and procedures of criminal investigation unit.
 
Ability to meet the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
 
Ability to use CJnet Driver License and Juvenile Justice databases 
 
Ability to work with Department of Juvenile Justice Probation Officers 
 
Ability to maintain and enter records into Access Database (for record keeping and tracking)
