Job Description
|
|
Performs responsible administrative support, real-time investigative support, and analytical work in the Crime Center for the Orlando Police Department (OPD). Primary responsibilities include providing research and investigative support during emergency calls for service, monitoring crime center cameras for incidents in progress, supporting sworn investigators with active investigations, and analyzing case reports for crime trends. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Crime Intelligence Analyst Supervisor with major incidents reviewed individually before final submission.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or related field with three (3) years experience as a Crime Analyst or Police Research Assistant; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. FDLE Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training (FLEAT) certificate and/or FDLE Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Academy (FLEAA) certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides real-time investigative support during calls to 911 communications for service.
Analyzes case reports to identify patterns and common characteristics of crimes and prepares reports indicating crime trends.
Completes research requests from detectives in support of active investigations.
Prepares biographical and address dossiers on suspects and criminal organizations.
Provides analytical support as requested.
Compiles weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports and distributes to sworn management.
Monitors radio traffic and Crime Center video management system for in-progress incidents and notifies or supports responding officers.
Tracks shootings citywide in Records Management System (RMS), spreadsheets and reports for use by patrol, management, and the public through records requests, etc.
Maintains the Prolific Offender program scoring in spreadsheets for State Attorney’s Office (SAO) Violent Crimes Section, Gangs Unit and Special Enforcement Section.
Participates in the department’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to track firearms used in crimes.
Publishes, disseminates, and cancels crime bulletins.
Participates in weekly intelligence meetings with specialty units and monthly meetings with the State Attorney’s Office (SAO).
Provides account management, training, and audits for various secure databases.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of principles of and developments in crime analysis methods, techniques, and data sources.
Knowledge of the principles of law enforcement administration and crime prevention.
Knowledge of research methodology, statistical interpretation, and methods of report presentation.
Knowledge of criminological theory and practices.
Knowledge of uniformed crime reporting system.
Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), spatial/temporal analysis, and ARCGIS mapping software.
Ability to conduct studies and to analyze and formulate recommendations based upon such studies.
Ability to interpret and analyze crime and other data.
Ability to operate personal computers.
Ability to work with numbers and to understand statistical concepts.
Ability to organize, communicate, and present clear, concise and factual oral and written reports and recommendations.
Ability to extract and analyze criminal activity information, perform complex analytical studies, formulate valid conclusions, and develop recommendations based on those studies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
