Job Description
 
Performs paraprofessional work with responsibility for overseeing aspects of the permanent collection’s care, safety, and documentation and to manage and execute incoming and outgoing loans. Responsible for the care, maintenance, and preservation of artwork that includes tracking and coordinating the movement of all artwork coming and going from the museum, including permanent collection works, loans, exhibitions, new acquisitions, and deaccessions. Works on the conditions needed to maintain preservation, stewardship, safe storage, and public access to objects. Reports to the Museum Director. Works collaboratively with the Curator of Education, Senior Administrative Assistant, and Public Art Coordinator. The collection (Mennello Museum & Public Art) numbers nearly one thousand (1000) works, includes outdoor sculptures, and future promised gifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Art History, or related field with three (3) years museum/art related experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Collection Management with two (2) years museum/art related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s Degree in Museum Studies, Collection Management, or related field desired. Experience working on both Windows and Mac platforms and with imaging software preferred.

Monitors art storage and exhibition spaces for temperature/humidity, environmental hazards, safety, cleanliness, and ongoing maintenance concernsMaintains and regular updates the museum’s facilities report and maintains an accurate and up-to-date inventory of the collection and all object locationsMaintains complete visual and written documentation of all collection objects in both hard-copy object files and on museum databaseMonitors the condition of works in the outdoor sculpture collection and coordinates with the City facility staff and contract conservators to address any problems, including annual maintenanceAssumes proper packing, shipping, and insurance for all artworks entering or exiting the museum; maintains their written and visual condition reportsManages all incoming and outgoing loan recordsManages and develops the museum’s object database with the goal of not merely document and tracking objects, but also making the database a rich repository of information, functional archivesDevelops and implements an object photography project to add images to all object recordsHandles incoming and outgoing requests for object information and images, including rights and reproduction requestsEvaluates, updates, and implements the museum’s Collection Management Policy and develops and implement a Museum Disaster Plan and other policies as neededProvides gallery maintenance to include lighting, installation guidance, and minor repairsWork with Public Art Coordinator as neededAssist with exhibition installation, work with outside vendors and professional art handlersAssists with special events and programs as needed


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of imaging software, such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

Skilled in the use of computers and operations within the Windows and Mac platforms

Ability to perform tasks in a detailed and organized fashion

Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral forms

Ability to manage multiple complex projects
