Job Description
|
|
This is a professional-level position responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating City of Orlando events including budgeting, managing sponsorships/partnerships and vendor agreements/contracts. Primary duties include marketing and promoting citywide and Mayor’s signature and special events and City initiatives, programs and services. Responsible for writing the City’s bi-weekly e-newsletter, talking points, press releases and marketing materials. Additionally, this position manages the City's social media platforms, reviews and approves City proclamations and recruits and manages office interns. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Communications Manager and is reviewed through discussions, reports submitted and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Advertising, Journalism (public relations emphasis), or related field plus four (4) years of marketing and event management experience preferably in the general public realm. Experience in all aspects of event logistics; to include sponsorships and budgeting required. Valid Florida Driver's License required at time of employment.

Responsibilities

Coordinates marketing, program development, budget management, audio/visual requirements, set-up, media coverage, invitations, permitting requirements, legal and security requirements, risk managements requirements and any other event related logistics.
Manages and creates content for the City's social media platforms.
Monitors social media usage analytics and makes recommendations on which sites should be utilized.
Advises other City departments on message content and the best social media platform to be utilized.
Work with community partners and funders to organize and implement community based events.
Assist in reviewing and editing flyers, brochures, posters and other graphic materials.
Work in collaboration with other teams within communications department to ensure consistency with branding messages and Mayor’s initiatives.
Serves on various community committees and internal committees when the City is hosting an event.
Writing assignments include: talking points, articles, marketing pieces, website, and TV shows produced within the department.
Assist Event Manager with committee meetings, minutes, mailings and other administrative work.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of public relations, event coordination and communication practices.
Knowledge of deadlines and operations needed to communicate effectively with the public.
Knowledge of advertising techniques and principles.
Knowledge of the principles, theories, philosophy and techniques of marketing, promoting and advertising programs, events and facilities.
Knowledge of community resources.
Skills proficient in Microsoft applications.
Ability to analyze social media analytics.
Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, peers and community partners and committees.
Ability to maintain and develop positive working relationships with internal and external audiences with coordinating various event related projects.
Knowledge of social agencies that offer volunteer services.
