Job Description

|
Performs administrative and limited supervisory work for the Recreation Division. Is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing comprehensive adult and youth sports programs. Is responsible for the rentals and maintenance of ball fields. Work assignments require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment in organizing and supervising specialized recreation activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Athletics Program Manager. Work is reviewed through observation of results achieved, reports, and conferences. Work is performed outdoors where employees may be exposed to extreme heat, insects, and adverse weather conditions. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Recreation Administration or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in recreation programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Florida Parks and Recreation Association (FRPA) certification desired.

Plans, organizes, implements, and supervises adult and youth sports programs.
Supervises, coordinates, schedules, and trains seasonal and part-time employees.
Assists in the preparation of program budget estimates.
Collects, receipts, and deposits all Center and program fees; bills community groups; and processes check requests for contractual instructors.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to revenue, personnel, inventory, program evaluations, and attendance.
Recruits and trains umpires, scorekeepers, and league directors.
Coordinates schedules between the facilities and league officials.
Establishes contracts and schedules umpiring officials for games.
Reviews and distributes rules and regulations guidebooks for each sport to coaches.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
Orders supplies and equipment for programs.
Plans and coordinates facility maintenance projects at all City Neighborhood Centers, Senior Centers, and other Recreation Division sites (e.g. the Orlando Skate Park and Orlando Tennis Centre) in collaboration with the manager of each site. Consults and advises recreation managers regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of facility repair and renovation projects and recommends appropriate action.
Serves as a liaison between the City's Facility Management Division and Families, Parks and Recreation Department. Collaborates with the City’s Facilities Management Division to develop and implement maintenance plans for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and structural care; repairs needs of Recreation facilities; and oversees work performed by outside contractors.
Conducts inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment for cleanliness and safety in accordance with City, state, and federal health codes.
Responds to alarm calls for work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation programming.

Knowledge of first aide methods and safety precaution used in recreation.
Knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and reach overhead.
Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of assigned employees.
Ability to schedule, instruct, and supervise numerous activities.
Ability to prepare, justify, and maintain program budget.
Ability to conduct training sessions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other employees, outside organization, participants, and the public.
Ability to work outdoors.
