Job Description
 
Performs entry-level professional work ensuring the health and safety of all aquatic patrons in multiple aquatic facilities, including accident prevention in and around the pool, rescue and care of accident victims, and emergency communications. Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the facility. Performs onsite administration and record keeping. Provides a positive image for the City of Orlando. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through regular ongoing visual inspections.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years of college and two (2) years experience lifeguarding and planning aquatic programming, with some knowledge of pool maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must possess CPR for Professional Rescuer, Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguarding Instructor certifications from the American Red Cross. Certified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) certification desired within one (1) year of employment. Background check and polygraph required.
 
Responsibilities

Supervises and provides a safe environment for all participants at a aquatic facility.

Responds quickly to emergency situations utilizing proper techniques and procedures. Administers emergency first aid required by the victim of an accident. Provides emergency communication to staff, public and EMS personnel.

Provides maintenance and sanitation to the pool and related facilities.

Administers and supervises aquatic programs, seasonal staff and facilities as assigned.

Observes and enforces all rules and regulations posted at aquatic facilities.

Prepares and verifies all records and reports are completed accurately and submitted on schedule.

Collects and reviews all revenues and report totals for the assigned facility.

Educates patrons and elementary schools in health and safety practices.

Assist in training, hiring and placing of life guards and Water Safety Instructors.

Planning, promoting, and implementing pool parties, synchronized swim shows and the recreational swim team.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety and health requirements for aquatic facilities and safety rules/regulations.

Knowledge of lifeguarding, first aid and CPR.

Skilled in swimming and safety procedures.

Knowledge in operation/maintenance of swimming pools.

Ability to read, understand, keep records and prepare reports.

Ability to schedule, assign, monitor and review work.

Ability to train and instruct other personnel. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships.
