Job Description
 
Performs professional work supervising the operational, maintenance, and programming activities of a neighborhood center. A neighborhood center does not have a gymnasium; but has a standard attendance level and a standard operating budget/revenue level, and is typically open six (6) days a week. An employee in this classification is responsible for promoting the facility for usage, revenue generation and bookkeeping, hiring of facility employees, compiling weekly/monthly records, and purchasing supplies. The position reports to the Recreation Program Manager and is reviewed through reports, conferences, completion of performance goals, and effectiveness of results achieved. Employees may be exposed to weather conditions including extreme heat.

SKATE PARK: (Note: The following may be used to substitute for the first sentence above.)
Performs administrative work supervising the operational, maintenance, and programming activities of a skate park. This position reports to the Aquatics Program Manager and is reviewed through reports, conferences, completion of performance goals, and effectiveness of results achieved.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, or related field and one (1) year of experience developing and/or implementing recreational/social programs; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required at time of application. Must pass a criminal background check and polygraph. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) desired.

SKATE PARK(NoteThe following is to be used instead of the one (1) year experience listed above.)
One (1) year of experience in management of a Skate Park facility.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Conducts surveys to identify the needs of patrons and develops recreational/social programming and special events to meet those needs. Plans activities; orders supplies and equipment; trains necessary staff; and evaluates and promotes existing programs.

Prepares annual schedule of facility programming and special events.

Promotes facility usage and rentals of facility; screens and accepts reservations; serves as a liaison with community groups; and consults with prospective facility users regarding fees, insurance, and related matters.

Recruits, interviews, trains, and supervises all employees and volunteers at the facility.

Ensures facility maintenance schedule is followed; conducts inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment for cleanliness and safety in accordance with City, state, and federal health codes.

Generates revenue; collects, receipts, and deposits all center/park and program fees.

May bill community groups and process check requests for contractual instructors.

Maintains all participant attendance records and payroll reports.

Enforces rules and regulations of the facility with the public; updates policies and procedures.

May chair/serve on various committees.

May complete professional development training each year.

SKATE PARK (SP): Performs administrative work supervising the operational, maintenance, and programming activities of a skate park.

SP: Establishes its own attendance level that varies; sets its own operating budget/revenue level.

SP: Is open seven (7) days a week, year-round excluding some holidays.

SP: May be exposed to weather conditions including extreme heat.

SP: May also provide the following: Instructional lessons for camp programming; some maintenance of the facility including restrooms, pro shop, and skate park; social media; event planning and execution; and employee training.

SP: Compiles weekly/monthly records, inventory, and purchasing supplies and retail product for pro shop.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the conduct of various recreational programs/events.

Knowledge of office practices to include bookkeeping, statistical reporting, and budgeting.

Knowledge of facility and grounds maintenance.

SKATE PARK:

Knowledge of skateboarding, BMX biking, and extreme sports in general.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to plan and supervise the work of assigned employees and volunteers.

Ability to plan and implement programs for all ages.

Ability to visually inspect facilities for repairs.

Ability to initiate programs and evaluate their effectiveness.

Ability to walk over uneven terrain or unpaved paths.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community groups, merchants, schools, and patrons of all ages.

Ability to operate a passenger bus.

Ability to operate a personal computer.
