Job Description

|
Performs professional work preparing detailed landscape architecture plans for City of Orlando parks and the grounds around other City of Orlando facilities. Designs and drafts plans for park and site development and beautification projects. Work involves preparing preliminary studies, sketches, working drawings and cost estimates. Exercises independent judgement. Work is reviewed through the Families, Parks and Recreation (FPR) Planner and Grants Manager as projects progress through reports, visual inspections, and/or conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture and at least four (4) years experience in planning and designing landscape architecture projects; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Experience with personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, and AutoCAD is required. Florida Certificate of Registration as a Landscape Architect is required. Professional Registration as a Landscape Architect from another state whose criteria for issuance were substantially identical to the Florida licensure criteria at the time the license was issued will be acceptable. (See Dept. of Professional Regulation, Board of Landscape Architecture, Florida Statutes (1991) Chapter 481.311). State of Florida Registration will be required within one (1) year of employment. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Researches, evaluates data and prepares reports regarding site selection and project development.
Prepares master plans and detailed drawings independently or from sketches and verbal instructions.
Prepares working drawings such as layout, grading, drainage, and planting plans.
Prepares cost estimates of construction and improvements.
Coordinates work with applicable City, County, State and other agencies.
Reviews, evaluates, and coordinates projects on City-owned open space including parks, plazas, libraries, fire stations and other municipal facilities.
Assists in preparation and participates in presentations before the public and various City Boards and commissions.
May serve as project coordinator and supervise work of subordinate personnel as necessary.
Participates in field inspections of landscape projects under construction to ensure compliance with project specifications and to evaluate open space for safety, appearance and function.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of landscape architecture design principals, procedures and processes, irrigation systems, plant material, construction plans and details, construction materials, AutoCAD, graphics programs, Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, permitting process, drafting and construction document protocols.
Knowledge of standard sources of landscape architectural information.
Knowledge of characteristics and requirements of Central Florida natural systems, plant materials, and landscape maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of general principles and practices of architecture, civil engineering and surveying.
Knowledge of normal drafting room equipment and procedures.
Strong general writing and verbal skills, good presentation skills, specification writing, research, navigating outside agencies and internal processes
Ability to successfully handle multiple design and construction projects concurrently
Ability to work with many different types of professions and backgrounds
Ability to design open spaces and site components following established landscape architectural design principles and processes.
Ability to precisely draft, edit, revise, measure and calculate project requirements such as landscape, irrigation and costs.
Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
Ability to prepare construction documents and presentation graphics.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize and direct landscape and groundskeeping maintenance work
Ability to perform duties in the field walking on or over rough, uneven, and unpaved ground, in a variety of weather and site conditions.
