Job Description
 
Performs the duties of the Database Administrator, including highly technical and administrative work in the installation, development, and maintenance of the City of Orlando’s MS SQL/Oracle Database environment. Provides consulting to the Applications Development Staff to correctly develop application database design models. Responsible for developing and enforcing City-wide data and database design standards, operational procedures, and software interfaces. Exercises considerable judgment in the resolution of technical problems and in all administrative and professional situations. Work is performed under limited supervision. Work is evaluated while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, discussion, review of established procedures, and achievement of desired results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field. Specific experience with MS SQL products and database modeling concepts. Four (4) or more years of related experience, including two (2) years of experience in database team leadership and project coordination involving training and mentoring assistant/backup database personnel, coordinating activities developer teams in using database software, and arranging, supervising and performing vendor software and tools upgrades; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass police background investigation.

Install and maintain MS SQL/Oracle software; tune MS SQL/Oracle databases for optimal database use.

Analyze database models developed by Application Development staff; provide education and consulting service support for effective relational database design and consistency with data standards.

Develop procedures for data accuracy on computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.

Review application procedures for data completeness on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.

Ensure data security on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.

Develop methodologies for efficiently storing MS SQL/Oracle data; ensure availability of the data on all computers; provide efficient backup and recovery of data on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.

Perform other related duties as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to install and maintain software, and develop database standards and backup/recovery procedures.

Ability to work within a group environment and serve as its leader.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Information System Bureaus, Orange County and the Property Appraiser.
