Job Description
 
Performs advanced technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, exit devices, and closed circuit TV (CCTV) electronic security hardware and systems of the City of Orlando buildings. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed for completion through reports submitted and evaluation of results obtained. Work may include responding to after-hours emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years experience as a journey level locksmith/technician; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to obtain membership in Associated Locksmiths of America within one (1) year of employment. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Carpentry experience desired. Experience with electronic security hardware, software, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) devices desired.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Administers the special high security Peaks and Special level III Schlage Primus and Primus XP locking systems.

Responsible for maintaining all confidential key and security records.

Makes and issues keys, as directed by the City key Management Policy and Procedure 910.2.

Reviews work orders, blueprints and schematic drawings of projects.

Requisitions materials and supplies in accordance with established guidelines.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with closed curcuit TV (CCTV), electronic security hardware systems; determines appropriate corrective measures and prepares estimates of costs involved.

Performs preventative maintenance of locking devices by inspection, repair and replacement of parts when necessary.

Researches alternate hardware and security devices; maintains inventory/ orders parts.

Repairs and opens defective security devices.

Repairs security locks and devices, including electrical and mechanical locking controls.

Makes new/duplicate keys, maintains key cutting machine, grinder, and related hand tools.

Works with carpenters preparing new doors for lock installation; adjusts doors, closures and/or striker plates to ensure proper lock alignment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools required to install and repair locking, exit and security devices.

Knowledge of various locking devices, parts, combinations, including electrical and mechanical controls.

Ability to read blueprints, drawings and technical specifications.

Ability to prepare cost estimates of time and materials.

Ability to prepare written reports and maintain accurate records.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Ability to bend, stoop, and lift tools/equipment weighting up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skilled in the use of die grinders, key cutting machines, drill motors.

Skill in the installation and repair of locks and security hardware which may involve bending, stooping and reaching over head.

Ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions.

Ability to monitor and maintain appropriate inventory level.

Ability to plan workload to meet deadlines.
