Job Description
|
|
Performs highly technical and administrative work in the installation, development, and maintenance of the City of Orlando's MS SQL/Oracle Database environment. Provides consulting to the Applications Development Staff to correctly develop application database design models. Responsible for developing and enforcing City-wide data and database design standards, operational procedures, and software interfaces. Exercises considerable judgment in resolving technical problems and in all administrative and professional situations. Work is performed under limited supervision. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, discussion, review of established procedures, and achievement of desired results.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field and four (4) years of database or related experience, including specific experience with MS SQL/Oracle CASE products and database modeling concepts; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. DEC ULTRIX training or experience preferred.

Installs and maintains MS SQL/Oracle software; tunes MS SQL/Oracle databases for optimal database use.
Analyses database models developed by Application Development staff; provides education and consulting services support for effective relational database design and consistency with data standards.
Develops procedures for data accuracy on computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.
Reviews application procedures for data completeness on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.
Ensures data security on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.
Develops methodologies for efficiently storing MS SQL/Oracle data; ensures availability of the data on all computers; provides efficient backup and recovery of data on all computers with MS SQL/Oracle databases.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to install and maintain software, and develop database standards and backup/recovery procedures.
Ability to work within a group environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Information System Bureaus, Orange County and the Property Appraiser.
