Job Description

|
Performs advanced technical, professional, and supervisory work in the research, analysis, and design of computerized signal timing systems. Duties include maintaining computerized traffic signal control system equipment, software, and documentation; analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing electrical and electronic traffic signal control equipment; coordinating with vendors for equipment repair; training and scheduling computer system operators; developing, maintaining, and updating traffic signal timing; and preparing related documentation and reports. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Systems Manager. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and four (4) or more years experience in transportation engineering, systems analysis, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Maintains computerized traffic signal control system equipment, software, and documentation; edits, updates, creates, and documents the computerized data base files.
Analyzes, develops, maintains and updates signal timing patterns and prepare reports.
Supervises, schedules and provides guidance, assistance and training to computer operators in use of equipment; recommends personnel actions such as employment, promotions, transfers; completes employee performance evaluations.
Assists consultants providing systems management/construction inspection for expansion; and consultants developing/modifying software.
Prepares wiring guides for use by Signal Shop to interface controller cabinets to traffic signal system; assists signal technicians in locating and correcting wiring errors and equipment malfunctions.
Operates electronic equipment used for the Traffic Signal System and for maintenance of the system; modifies equipment to provide proper operation; repairs electric and electronic equipment; coordinates with vendors providing maintenance for specific equipment (minicomputer, air conditioner, Halon system).
Responds to questions/complaints from the public on system operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices as related to traffic signals.
Knowledge of municipal rules, regulations, and ordinances relating to traffic flow and control.
Knowledge of electronics and electrical circuitry and testing devices.
Knowledge of computerized traffic signal control systems.
Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and programming.
Ability to adapt approved traffic engineering methods and standards to the design and layout of computerized systems.
Ability to supervise, select, and train staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, general public and private agencies.
