Job Description
|
|
Performs professional-level work and is responsible for the education of Orlando Fire Department (OFD) EMTs and Paramedics in accordance with the standards and objectives established by the EMS Division and the Office of the Medical Director. Implements and evaluates lesson plans for OFD EMTs and Paramedics to include scheduled activities, simulations, and materials of sequences. Assists with plan instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon need and established program objectives and monitor course participants' performance and attendance. Responsible for participating in educational planning sessions and providing weekly, monthly, and annual reports on the overall effectiveness of the Continuous Quality Improvement Program. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Training Assistant Chief.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in a Health Care, Education, or related field and seven (7) years of pre-hospital experience as a paramedic, including at least two (2) years of field supervisory, preceptor, or FTO experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Graduation from an accredited paramedic program and current certification as a National Registry Paramedic or State of Florida Paramedic required. Instructor certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), or other instructor certifications may be required, according to department or system need. Previous management experience in pre-hospital or hospital setting preferred.

Reviews participants' success rates and implements plan to assist OFD EMTs and Paramedics with required compliance.
Evaluates the performance of OFD EMTs and Paramedics regarding achievements in program objectives and activities and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
Arranges and coordinates guest speakers, prepares lectures, simulation drive-out training and in-house practical demonstrations for OFD EMTs and Paramedics throughout the department.
Assists with implementation and administration of the Continuous Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) initiatives.
Assures quality care is being provided by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system.
Gathers statistical data, analyzes information, and makes recommendations on system improvements.
Assists Lieutenant Training Officer with coordination, researching, designing, and delivery of Department monthly, and annual training schedules and materials.
Helps to oversee the fire department's Field Training Evaluation Program.
Researching topics, design and delivering course content
Evaluating comprehension, compliance and remediating
Record keeping and evaluation
Report generating, and data analyses
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles of supervision and ability to apply this knowledge to work problems
Knowledge of statistical record keeping practices
Knowledge of the operation of standard EMS operations
Knowledge of the law, rules and regulations controlling EMS operations
Knowledge of computers and their applications with specific emphasis on current Departmental patient care software
Skilled in the operation of a personal computer, its software and hardware
Skilled in dealing with the public and Fire personnel effectively and efficiently
Skilled in presenting work reports to upper management effectively both orally and in writing
Significant communication skills for teaching and reemphasizing concepts, skills and training
Ability to remain calm and provide effective instruction and direction.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, OFD personnel staff, other professional external stakeholders and general public.
Ability to train/support less experienced co-workers.
Ability to develop work procedures
Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports of tabulations for such records
Ability to make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and established policies and procedures
Ability to provide information correctly and concisely both orally and in writing
Ability to perform work involving written/numerical data and to make arithmetic calculations both manually and on the computer
