|
A proactive and process-driven Safety Specialist is sought to join the City of Orlando’s Risk Management team. Integrates a diverse occupational health and safety management system into operational culture by developing, monitoring, and implementing new and existing health and safety OSHA and EPA-required training. May have lead responsibilities on team projects and perform incident investigations and analysis of safety and health trends. Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field and three (3) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid Florida Driver’s License required. Preferences: Experience in municipal operations including water treatment plants, streets and stormwater operations, and refuse collection. Qualified CDL instructor. Qualified OSHA 500 / 501 instructor. Environmental regulation understanding.

Develops, monitors, and implements safety, training, and accident prevention programs Citywide to reduce or eliminate occupational accidents, injuries, illnesses, deaths, and/or financial losses.
Meets with appropriate City personnel to determine training needs and to ensure successful program outcomes; coordinates safety activities with program managers to ensure successful training in the implementation of the City's safety program.
Schedules and conducts inspections of various City work sites, facilities, and vehicles to identify potential or existing unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices; ensures work is performed adhering to established safety procedures; and meets with and makes recommendations to program managers and supervisors to reduce accidents and injuries.
Reviews accident investigations, workers' compensation reports, and liability accidents; reviews data and recommends corrective action, including instructing employees in proper safety practices, correct operation of equipment, and/or implement procedures to prevent recurrence.
Receives, reviews, and analyzes data relates to occupational accidents, illnesses, and injuries. Prepares recommendations on findings for executive management evaluation and decision making.
Assists in the administration of the City's driver's license program, including monitoring of driving records, CDL physicals, and random drug screening.
Monitors and updates the City's loss control policies and procedures; develops operating procedures for Citywide use; keeps abreast of current development in safety and accident prevention programs; and researches and analyzes trends in safety.
Ensures materials concerning safety and training are available to all City employees.
May be assigned lead responsibilities on team and individual projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of loss control techniques and safety rules and regulations mandated by law.
Knowledge of occupational safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of training principles and practices.
Skilled in the use of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and other software used by the City.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to conduct research, analysis, and develop reports, manuals, and/or presentations based on findings.
Ability to develop and implement safety training programs.
Ability to use personal computer, safety equipment, and various other office equipment.
