Job Description
 
Conducts thorough investigations into the backgrounds of perspective candidates for police officer. Researches, compiles, and organizes data. Investigates discrepancies and/or questionable information to be presented to the Police Chief. Work is performed under general supervision. Performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through reports, discussions, and results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Background Investigations with six (6) months to one (1) year experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Background investigation certification from the State of Florida required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. Must pass a background check which includes polygraph. Personal computer and office equipment knowledge required.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Conduct background investigation into criminal history of the identified candidates for police officer; prepare written letters, memorandums and/or recommendations on the investigations; obtain and submit necessary paperwork to further information and/or records.

Collect, organize, and analyze incoming background information to determine and prioritize the candidates qualifications related to the departments requirements and evaluate the importance in relation to the position.

Verify references, reports, evaluations and/or other documents in conjunction with the background investigation. May include follow up investigation by conducting neighborhood, employment and tenant related checks that could be necessary to satisfy the departments requirements.

Submit requests for Officer Certification with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Complete Background Investigation forms necessary for State Certification. Maintain all relative documents pertaining to the hiring process.

Perform other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Florida State Statues, investigation methods and procedures, as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Proficient computer skills with programs and equipment.

Proficient organizational skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks.

Ability to analyze and complete complex and lengthy background investigations.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to type.
