Job Description

|
Performs technical and administrative support to the Human Relations Office. Responsible for the initial screening and intake of discrimination complaints in the areas of employment, housing, and public accommodations. Maintains the appointment and intake log, enters coding, and retrieves case data for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Integrated Mission Systems (IMS). Tracks complaints and compliance reviews through the IMS tracking system and Title VIII Automated Paperless Office Tracking System (TEAPOTS) in accordance with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requirements. Provides administrative support and serves as the recording secretary for the Mayor’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission and the City’s Chapter 57 Review Board. Work is performed under the Human Relations Assistant Director. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through discussions, internal audits, external audits, reports, and results achieved.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years of specialized experience responding to inquiries regarding employment or housing discrimination programs, conducting research, preparing routine reports on program-related information, or performing similar duties, including one (1) year of experience involving Title VII and Title VIII, EEO or HUD discrimination; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Assists with inquiries, intakes, and screening of issues and complaints related to employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination; codes data, enters and retrieves information on systems such as the EEOC IMS and HUD TEAPOTS; handles docketing and closing functions related to cases; reviews and verifies accuracy of data; updates and maintains accurate files and data; distributes information, forms and copies as appropriate.
Compiles data, conducts research, and obtains pertinent material for staff; prepares routine reports using specialized database such as IMS and TEAPOTS; makes note of problems or areas of concern.
Assists with preparation of cases and mediation conferences, researches and gathers data and information on laws and precedents related to EEOC, HUD, as well as the City’s Chapter 57 anti-discrimination ordinance; prepares settlement agreements and other staff support work. As incumbent gains more experience and training, may participate with co-mediation.
May review complaint documents for compliance with regulation and procedure and recommend administrative action; conducts limited inquiries regarding individual cases for processing appropriately.
Performs a variety of administrative support work in support of office operations including typing, filing, responding to request for information and inquiries regarding case status.
Provide staff assistance at board meetings and appeal hearings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of local, state and federal discrimination laws as they relate to employment, housing and public accommodations
Knowledge of standard office methods and procedures
Skilled in the operation of a personal computer
Ability to demonstrate proficient use of specialized program systems such as EEOC's IMS and HUD’s TEAPOTS
Ability to learn and apply basic policies, procedures, and regulations related to EEOC, HUD, and Chapter 57 of the City's code as applicable
Ability to conduct research, compile data, and prepare routine reports and memos
Ability to learn and enter EEOC and HUD codes appropriately
Ability to provide lead direction
Ability to work independently, plan, organize and meet deadlines
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material
Ability to communicate effectively, responds to inquiries, and provides information
