Job Description
 

Performs professional accounting and financial record-keeping work requiring knowledge of accounting practices and methods and familiarity with accounting systems' operations and procedures. Primarily responsible for reviewing complex, detailed financial transaction documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with established criteria; in addition to researching various records and performing detailed audits of transactions to correct errors and reconcile accounts through computer and/or manual record-keeping. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established procedures. Performance is reviewed for technical accuracy through discussions, direct observation, summary reports, and verification of balances.

Orlando Venues:
The Live Entertainment Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial aspects of live events, including budgeting, expense tracking, revenue reconciliation, and financial reporting. This role involves close collaboration with event managers, production teams, promoters, and venue staff to ensure accurate and timely financial management before, during, and after events. Performs professional accounting work, which may include overseeing lower-level accounting personnel in the performance of specialized accounting functions. Primary duties include organizing, maintaining, reviewing, recording, reconciling and interpreting financial records; preparing and entering journal entries, ad hoc payments, financial statements and reports; and participating in the design and revision of manual and automated accounting systems and all other duties as assigned. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through reports, periodic internal and external audits, conferences, and results obtained.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and two (2) years of professional experience in governmental accounting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. CPA desired. Must pass background check which includes polygraph.

Additional Qualifications for Promotion:

Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. Last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Analyzes and verifies accounting records and financial data; ascertains compliance with established laws, procedures, and policies; evaluates existing rules, methods, forms and controls for the purpose of conserving the City's resources and for the general protection of its interests with respect to its assets, liabilities, investments, revenues and expenditures. Conducts research and resolves complex accounting problems.

Analyzes monthly expenditures of various construction project costs and consolidates into a budget status report; reviews invoices charging projects for services and insures that sufficient funds are available.

Performs specialized accounting tasks such as municipal fixed assets accounting or project accounting for particular federal programs.

Participates in the establishment, revision and maintenance of accounting and record keeping systems; prepares regular and special financial reports and statements.

Monitors and evaluates manual and automated accounting systems; verifies and reconciles trial balances, detail appropriations and expenditures; reviews reports, vouchers, requisitions, invoices and other financial data for accuracy, completeness and conformance with guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles; interprets financial records and prepares reports concerning the financial condition and conduct of the applicable entity.

Designs, maintains, and analyzes reports regarding the City's investment portfolios; analyzes and verifies earning statements, prepares related reports, monitors and evaluates market trends; and performs other duties in support of the Treasury Bureau functions.

Participates in compiling financial data for budget formulation; prepares and reviews draw down vouchers, journal entries, pay forms, trial balances and cash requisitions; participates in cash management and investment activities; reviews accounting data runs, financial reports and adjustments.

May oversee, train, and review the work of lower level professional and clerical accounting personnel in departmental methods and procedures; reviews work of subordinate employees for accuracy, completeness and adherence to instructions, guidelines and accepted accounting procedures.

Performs other related duties as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of accounting.

Working knowledge of governmental accounting principles, procedures, laws, rules, guidelines and regulations.

Knowledge of data processing applications and software as related to accounting.

Knowledge of office administrative and supervisory techniques.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and explain financial data and accounting principles/procedures.

Ability to assign, schedule, oversee and review the work of others.

Ability to operate personal computer.

Ability to review, modify, improve and design accounting systems.

Ability to review, analyze and interpret fiscal records and to prepare accurate and complete financial statements.

Ability to maintain accurate technical operating records and to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
