Job Description

Performs responsible supervisory work scheduling and providing operational direction to the survey field crews and the CADD Technician. Holds the position of a working supervisor leading a survey field crew. Work is performed under the supervision of the City Surveyor. Performance is reviewed for accomplishment of objectives through reports submitted, conferences and results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with coursework in mathematics (algebra and trigonometry) and at least three (3) years experience as a survey party chief with progressively responsible engineering and land survey experience, some of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must possess and maintain a valid Certified Survey Technician Level III from the National Society of Professional Surveyors.

Supervise, plan, schedule, and assign projects to the field crews and the CADD technician.

Inspects and review surveys completed by survey crews and drawings by the CADD technician, for completeness and accuracy before submittal to the City Surveyor for final review.

Maintain records of pending projects and work performed.

Research survey records and related documents for required data need for projects Trains staff in proper survey techniques, methods procedures, safety precautions, and equipment operation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, instruments, data collectors, and various software used in surveying.

Knowledge of legal principles affecting surveying work.

Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions and associated federal, state, and local ordinances.

Skilled in the operation of various types of survey equipment and safety equipment.

Skilled in computer operation, and data collectors and various software programs used in surveying.

Skilled in procedures required to perform various types of surveys.

Ability to evaluate the work of others for accuracy and completeness.

Ability to communicate moderately complex ideas and information.

Ability to accurately record, organize, and maintain survey data.

Ability to read and interpret maps, legal descriptions, and other documents related to land surveying.

Ability to perform work involving a considerable amount of waking outdoors and at times in adverse weather conditions with exposure to fumes, insects, chemicals and requiring manual dexterity and physical agility.

Ability to operate a small boat and to swim and stay afloat in deep water.

Ability to operate a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Ability to operate various survey types of surveying equipment and computers.
