Job Description
|
|
Performs administrative and supervisory work of a technical nature involving the development and maintenance of engineering records and maps (sanitary sewer, reuse, city, and private) utilizing GIS equipment and software. Responsible for preparation and maintenance of records involving subdivision changes, abandonments, easements, rights of way, annexations, address, and street name assignment. Work is performed under general supervision of the Engineering & Mapping Manager. Performance is reviewed through audits, meetings, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Engineering or related field and two (2) or more years experience in cartography, geography, or engineering; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of computer-aided drafting, design, and mapping systems required.

Supervises, participates in, and reviews the design, drafting, and maintenance of manual mapping and automated mapping contained in a cartographic database; reviews coded data, and various reports to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with quality standards.
Develops and maintains computerized central records system.
Writes and plats legal descriptions utilizing bearings, angles and distances.
Coordinates the preparation and administration of moving/demolition contracts; calculates cost estimates, coordinates preparation of specifications, and generation of bid documents; inspects to ensure adherence to contract terms, and authorizes payment.
Establishes quality control and error determination procedures.
May occasionally perform CADD development of engineering plans.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of Map Info and CADD.
Knowledge of drafting, drawing and cartographic principles, practices, and techniques.
Knowledge of Civil Engineering pertaining to surveying and mapping.
Knowledge of many line styles, types and colors used in cartographic and mapping principles.
Knowledge of legal descriptions.
Knowledge of Map Info, GIS attribute databases, query language, report writing facilities, Corel Draw, Corel Photo or similar graphic arts programs and statistical analysis software.
Ability to use multi-color pen plotters and develop symbol sets.
Ability to draw graphic representations using distances, bearings and other measurements.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates.
