Job Description

|
Performs supervisory and professional work and is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Information Technology (IT) Database Administrator resources, projects, and daily tasks. Oversees and assists in the overall maintenance of the application data and database landscape by establishing best practices and communicating/implementing application data policies and procedures that drive improved efficiency, productivity, and security. Works in a team environment as well as autonomously; resolves problems efficiently; focuses on Department goals and objectives; and delivers timely and accurate information to the decision-makers and operational teams. Work is performed under general supervision. Performance is reviewed through conferences, written reports, and achievement of goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field and five (5) years of technical IT experience, data management, and database administration experience; or an equivalent combination od education, training, and experience. Knowledge of specific constructs (tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures) of a database required. Background check required. Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, Azure Cloud MS SQL database services, AWS Cloud MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB database services, and other SQL and NoSQL database technologies desired. Experience in Microsoft SQL and Oracle database management and administration preferred.

Responsibilities

Participates in strategic and operational business consulting and data process improvement efforts.
Helps establish database architectures, data requirements, coding, and data standards as well as quality assurance policies and procedures to improve data service performance and resiliency between independent application data sets and databases across the City.
Oversees a team of database administrators who manage all of the City's DBs to supply the highest quality of service for the applications supporting the City’s staff, executives, and citizens.
Seeks to identify and remove blockers that may inhibit employees from providing their best effort and quality of workmanship to generate high level standards, efficient processing, and detail-driven solutions.
Manages the teams' work schedules and roles to ensure needs are met for requested DB support items, projects, future planning, troubleshooting, maintenance, lifecycle replacements, product advancement, etc.
Tasks individuals to engage in such activities to help provide the best results to users.
Performs not only a supervisory role but also remains heavily engaged in practicing own skillset of DB administration.
Actively oversees monitoring of the DB environments, provides guidance to employees, and facilitates best practices review.
Schedules routine system updates, creates team policies and procedures, and engages in troubleshooting activities.
Serves as the technical lead to the Cloud Strategy team, comprised of members from application, security, fiscal, network, and system areas; guides and facilitates the City’s cloud initiatives including documentation, project implementation, training, and troubleshooting; and tracks with the goals for the Department.
Oversees the MS licensing committee which provides oversight and guidance to the City’s licensing strategy; maintains security with timely updates; meets renewal objectives; and continues to try to remain cost-effective. MS licensing is an ever-changing technology and requires continual attention to meet standards.
