Job Description
|
|
Performs administrative and professional community engagement work serving as an expert in outreach and enhancement. Organizes and implements resources and services for neighborhood organizations and residents. Responsibilities include project coordination, informing and connecting neighborhood leaders and residents to city programs and services, and serving as a resource for community and neighborhood outreach. Serves as a City of Orlando liaison with neighborhood organizations. Researches and publicizes best practices for neighborhood outreach and/organizing. Organizes, plans, publicizes, coordinates, and facilitates community enhancement and neighborhood leadership workshops and events to engage neighborhood leaders. Utilizes city platforms and partnerships to communicate city programs and services. Work is performed under the supervision of the Office of Communications and Neighborhood Relations Neighborhood Relations Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through discussions and evaluations of results achieved. This position requires office and field work including evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Public Administration, Social Science, or related field and a minimum of two (2) years experience in the development and administering neighborhood or community enhancement programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Researches and identifies city and other resources necessary for community problem solving.
Coordinates informational materials about city programs, services, best practices, and initiatives to inform citizens and organizations.
Develops and applies strategies to improve the effectiveness of communities, neighborhood associations, and residents; and facilitates informational meetings with residents to identify solutions.
Maintains neighborhood association databases ensuring accuracy.
Communicates city services, activities, and programs to citizens, businesses, and organizations.
Consults with city departments, and community organizations to offer solutions to community needs.
Assists with planning and implementing the annual Neighborhood Summit and other special events.
Assists associations, residents, and businesses in accessing city services and programs to address specific needs.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of city departments, codes, policies and procedures, and boards and their respective services, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Florida Statutes: F.S. 718 - Condo Regulations; F.S. 720 -- Homeowner Associations
Knowledge of the geographical area and demographics of assigned areas in community, including the ability to read and understand density maps, land use data information, growth management plans, etc.
Knowledge of organizational development, team building, volunteer recruitment and management, conflict resolution, and managing and facilitating meetings, including Robert's Rules of Order.
Knowledge of community resources in the government, public, and private sectors.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills required
Skilled in public speaking; researching, developing and making presentations; conducting workshops; and presenting ideas clearly and concisely in writing and/or verbally.
Skilled at the intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city departments, elected city officials, community leaders, residents, area businesses, and community and social service agencies.
Ability to remain calm under pressure, in stressful situations, and during confrontational meetings.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate independent judgment, and show initiative.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to identify neighborhood needs and potential solutions, and to plan, manage and evaluate outreach programs and activities to address needs.
Ability to analyze and interpret factual data necessary to render opinions, decisions, and direction to the citizens, community, organizations, associations, and businesses.
