Job Description
|
|
Responsible for coordinating, scheduling, monitoring, and approving special events and construction projects' street or lane closures to avoid scheduling conflicts. Responsible for coordinating and directing traffic safety issues relating to special events, Banner Installment Program, News Media Notification Program, Computerized Special Events, and Construction Activities Schedule. Work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Safety Program Manager and reviewed through observation, discussions, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and two (2) years traffic control-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. FDOT Advance Level MOT Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Certification at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate level Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) desired at time of hire. Experience/training in traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, traffic control plan design, or traffic studies preferred.

Reviews "Permit and Authorization" requests for Special Events. Coordinates, plans and directs Traffic Control Plan issues with the event promoter, Orlando Police Department, Parking Bureau, other city Bureaus and outside agencies.
Maintains Computerized Special Events and Construction activities schedule which impacts Lane Closure, Right-of-Way and other special events.
Notifies news media, emergency services, transit services and business owners of special events, construction projects and other traffic operations issues that require the closure of streets, lanes and sidewalks.
Receives and authorizes banner installment requests after all conditions of the ordinance have been met. Provides instruction and guidelines to the applicants and to the installment crews assigned to install the banner.
Prepares and directs work orders including temporary removal of on-street parking for special events or construction activities.
Coordinates and directs emergency/incident situations with support staff by 2-way radio or telephone.
Provides assistance to the program supervisor in the development of the program's budget; maintain files, prepares correspondence and provides technical support for the program's goals and objectives.
Conducts field investigations and inspections and site meeting prior to, during, and after construction to ensure compliance with established design specifications and contract requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish Bureau goals and objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of transportation engineering.
Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the City and FDOT Roadway and Traffic Design Standards Manual.
Knowledge of municipal rules, regulations and ordinances relating to traffic flow and control.
Knowledge of the manufacture, maintenance, and installation of traffic signs, pavement markings, and signals and their application and usage.
Skilled in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to sit for extended periods while working on the computer.
