Job Description
 
Performs administrative professional work assisting the Division Director in the general administration within the Division. Is responsible for the development and implementation of special projects. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, and/or urban forestry; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License prior to appointment.

Oversees daily operations and provides leadership for the day-to-day functioning of the Gardens including visitor services, food and retail services, guest amenities and ticketing, and events to ensure safe, secure, and efficient functioning of the Gardens. Leads a continual evaluation and enforcement of the Gardens policies and procedures. When necessary, establishes new policies, procedures, and best practices to address deficiencies and improve operations, with input of colleagues as appropriate.

Supervises direct reports in guest services and supports Department managers, facilities, events, guest services, and finance. Provides guidance, coaching, and mentorship to staff.

Provides oversight of the Gardens fiscal operations including management of the annual budget, accuracy of financial accounting, financial analysis, preparation of financial forecasts, and the prudent and responsible allocation of resources. Acts as a liaison to the City of Orlando and Venues administration regarding finances and contracted relationships.

Supports the Executive Director in modeling expectations for earned revenue generation and uses data to develop forecast models, project annual attendance, and revenue targets. Strategizes across departments with the Executive Director and key staff to implement organizational and program innovation and special projects in service of current operations and strategic new directions.

Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards; implements policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors; oversees maintenance and facilities projects throughout the grounds; and implements policies and procedures to maintain a safe, secure, and well-maintained campus for staff and visitors.

Works in concert with the City of Orlando and Venues administration to oversee all aspects of the Gardens people management and information technology.

Supports the Executive Director in creating a culture of philanthropy for the Gardens programmatic, business, fundraising, and special projects fund development through grant funding opportunities and donor cultivation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of botanical gardens planning, development, and maintenance.

Knowledge of modern principles and practices of horticulture, buildings, and grounds maintenance and landscape management.

Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

Knowledge of bargaining unit agreement.

Ability to gather and analyze facts and to prepare detailed reports.

Ability to prepare comprehensive reports for publication.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, and the public.

Ability to express self clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
